Here we go with the introspection again. Have I mentioned that I’m horrible at this? So these introspection topics are very difficult for me to do. Once again, I referred to my friends, because if anyone would see my personality traits, it would definitely be them. Now, I won’t say they gave me all positive traits, because well, they’re my friends. One of my favorite ones was “sarcastic” because well, I am. I use it most of the time for humor, but there are those occasions where nothing funny is intended by it. We all have our down sides.

After getting a few opinions, one really stood out for me: loyalty. The meaning of loyalty is “a strong feeling of support or allegiance” and that rings true for me. I’m fiercely loyal to those who have a special place in my heart.

Loyalty

Loyal to a fault

I’ll admit, to most, someone being loyal is a good thing. However, the reality is that some of us can be loyal to a fault. I’ll hang my head and humbly raise my hand for that category. I’ve been in utterly horrible situations that I was loyal to someone who no longer deserved it. That didn’t stop my loyalty. I’ve put myself on the line in the name of loyalty, and while I don’t regret showing that loyalty, I should have been wiser about where I placed it.

As I’ve gotten older, I’ve realized that being loyal is not only hard for some people to do, but hard for others to accept. Many of us who are loyal to a fault are often told we’re “too much” to handle or that we’re “too intense.” Then there are those that come into your life that understand and are grateful for that loyalty. The balance isn’t always even, but it works out in the end.

Loyalty and love

Loyalty and love usually go hand in hand. I’ll be honest that for me, they are a necessity. For those that I love, I love fiercely. I love like it is the air that I breath, and with that comes my loyalty. Love to me is multi-faceted. There are those that I love with all that I am, they are my chosen family, they see the good, the bad, the ugly, and they are still by my side. Then there is the special place in my heart for one who earns it. Unfortunately, in my life, I’ve given that part of me to people who in the end, didn’t deserve it.

I’ve now reached a point where I am pickier about who I let into those spots of my life. I have a small inner circle of family and friends that I will move heaven and hell for. As for that special place in my heart, that’s even more guarded most days. That is a loyalty that I’ll give, but the depths of how deep that loyalty runs can be unfathomable to the one willing to break down the walls.

Loyalty and support

This is another thing that I realized goes hand in hand… and sometimes I’ll do it to the utmost extent. My loved ones need me, I’m there. I’m not always able to meet all the needs, but I sure as hell am going to give my all that I can.

See, here is the thing about these introspective posts. I feel like they are my own version of TED Talks (trademark, copyright, all that legal stuff totally to them on that name). Like, this is me, this is who I am, and here’s how I do it. I don’t claim to have all the answers, nor do I claim to understand all the things.

But what answers I do have… I will share. What things I do understand, I’ll explain if I can.

Challenge

This week, the challenge is to find your personality trait that is your favorite. Think about why, what it means to you to have it, and what it means for others to display the same to you.

As always, we would love to hear from you. If there is something you’d like to tell us, share with us, or even ask; please feel free to comment below or you can contact us. Own your journey, and we will catch you on the flip side.
